Dr. Onylie will present his current research on Okpo masks, found among
the Efik people of Southeastern Nigeria, which is part of the UCO African art
collections. The masks celebrate the sexual maturity of boys and girls
from pubescence into adolescence. Allegorically, the masks shape the
complexities of sexual maturity.
Presentation begins at 4 p.m. in the Max Chambers Library Room 226. Meeting with students begins at 5:30 p.m. in the same location. Light refreshments provided.
