The University of Central Oklahoma Percussion Consort will be performing "classic" percussion ensemble repertoire at their Mitchell Hall Theatre concert on April 27 at 7 pm. David Hardman, director of percussion studies, leads the group through a program of important works by composers Edgard Varese, Minoru Miki, Christopher Rouse, Bob Becker, David Friedman, and Pat Metheny. Ionisation, by Varese, is widely considered to be the first Western composition for percussion ensemble. This performance will be a UCO premiere, and will be conducted by Nikola Gjorcevski. Minoru Miki's exciting Marimba Spiritual will feature Chris Prather as marimba soloist. Other guests performing with the grouo this concert are saxophonist Vince Norman and bassist Rei Wang.
